Product Description |
| Solio, the Universal "Hybrid" Charger, is powerful enough to charge all of your handheld electronic products at home or on the move, anywhere under the sun. Solio is a Hybrid because it can accept power from either the sun or the wall, storing this energy within Solio's internal rechargeable battery. Solio then uses this energy to power your gadgets at the same rate as your wall adapter. Solio also will hold its charge for up to a year. Solio limits your need to purchase and carry around multiple chargers and is your one-stop charging solution for all of your products from cell phones and iPods, to digital cameras, game players, and GPS. Other facts: - A fully charged Solio Classic will charge a typical mobile phone more than twice or give 20-plus hours of iPod music.
- Just 1 hour of sunshine = 20 minutes talk time or 50 minutes of MP3 music.*
- Provides an emergency power source when away from power outlets.
- Battery is easily replaceable and lasts for up to one year
- Works with multiple gadgets, including mobile phones, iPhone, Bluetooth headsets, smartphones/PDAs, MP3 players, portable gaming devices, digital cameras, GPS, and much more; tips for most devices come with the charger.
- Compact, lightweight design--convenient for travel or emergency use.
* Performance times may vary slightly depending on type of device and intensity of sunlight. What's in the Box Solio S19-B38D Universal Hybrid Charger (Black) |

Essential equipment for backcountry iPod users
|

I just returned from an 8-day climbing trip and used this charger to keep my iPod working. I take an iPod on my trips to save weight (audio books weigh nothing), pass the time when weather turns bad, and mask the sound of the tent fly flapping during windy nights. I have an iPod nano and a fully charged Solio holds about 1 1/2 iPod charges. I typically left the Solio next to my tent to recharge during the day and it worked great. Interestingly, at some of my higher camps (~6500 feet) the Solio charged more quickly than it did at home (sea level), most likely due to the more intense solar radiation at that elevation.
My only concern is whether or not the Solio is waterproof enough to leave out on days when it might rain. The manual says "do not immerse in water", and putting the Solio in a clear waterproof baggie might be the answer, but I did not test this.
I wish there was an attachment to charge a Canon NB-4L battery, but so far I have been unable to find one. |
Works very well!

| This item, despite some of the negative feedback posted here and elsewhere, works well. I have charged it once within one day in the sun. It was overcast, and charged about 50% in four hours or so. I did not have to move the unit at all to achieve charge. I connected it to my iPod and it charged halfway in approximately 50 minutes. I am very pleased with this product, and would definitely recommend it! The iPod connector IS included, or at least it was with mine. It is a USB female connector, which, combined with the iPod's USB connector, creates the connection from iPod to SOLIO. Great product, no complaints at all though I was wary at first. My only small complaint is that my cell phone cannot be charged with the connectors and tips included, but that really is not why I got this product. |

| I am not sure about the critics since my experience has been awesome-- both in the backcountry and during my commute, solio has saved my bacon several times. granted there is not always enough sun during the winter, but that is why it also works from the wall socket... love the product, the idea. great design! |

okay first thing is first i bought the pink solio because i was able to get it cheaper than the other colors, thinking i would just paint it. I ended up painting it green, but i do not recommend painting this item you cannot take it apart as easily as i thought.
What I like about the solio is it can store energy i have other solar devices but once the sun sets they do you no good. With the solio you can leave it out in the sun and then charge your items at night, which make it good for camping and hiking. Do not expect to leave this in a window and get a good charge, it will simply not work. That is not a fault of the solio many different solar items do not work well through a window. Its small so you can take it with you different places and stick it outside a window wherever to store energy for later. Also its a cool design and looks interesting people really enjoy it.
There are some down sides it takes a long time to charge it fully. I need one day of full sun usually one and a half to charge it fully. The other down side is when i charge my phone that is 50% worn down it takes 75% of the solio's energy to bring the phone to 100% but i believe that is because my cellphone battery holds more energy than the solio's battery.
Overall the solio is a cool gadget that does work. However, i have a brunton solarport and that does work better. The solio is good for bringing along and storing energy to charge/run devices later on at night. I recommend it. |
Works well - may need to order another tip for your device

| Excellent robust design. If going to a no-electricity place, this is an ideal way to charge your electrical device (provided there is access to sunlight). It's a bit expensive but the quality is obvious. My unit did not have the tip for my cell phone so it had to be ordered (more expense). Folds up and easy to carry. If going on an extended trip to the woods and you need your radio, phone, or gps, this is the ticket. |
